D-Vision's (Video) Slots
This is an older archive of our reviews
dating back to the end of 2004 and first half
of 2005. The introduction of video slot potpourri
helps me out as the number of machines to
review starts to run out. It also enables
me to use many of the pictures that were
sitting on my memory stick.
The in-between Clayvision ads and misc
video slot photos started to pop up.
Here is the list of machines reviewed on this page:
Shocking Headlines, Stinkin'
Rich,
Paul Rodriguez,
Megabucks with Morgan Fairchild,
Soul Train, Love Boat,
Reel Em In - Big Bass Bucks,
Hollywood Squares Autograph, Bobble Time,
Catch Another Wave,
and many more in the Potpourri
(Disclaimer: I am not instructing you to
dump
your life savings into slot machines. In fact, the
smartest thing to do would probably be to keep
your money in non taxable state bonds...
but what fun is that?)

Good Luck!
you'll need it...

I made money on Clint Eastwood!
Well, not in the long run, if you count all the
times I've lost...
This one very lucky time, I lined up four horse
symbols
thanks to the lucky shot bonus. 260
credits sounded great
when I realized it was nickels and not
pennies...

Old School Monopoly
A big winner on the classic Chairman of the
Board Monopoly
video slot. Remember these days... 9
lines, nickels, hopper fills.

Wild Worm?
I usually don't put this guy to good use, but
this guy helped me cash a big 300 coin victory.

Megabucks
Morgan Fairchild endorsed Video Slots
(11/30/05)
Jackpot:
Five Megabuck symbols
on the 60th line with max coins bet?
(I don't remember... I should've take a picture of the reels)
The Good:
A fun, fun bonus game as you get to pick tiles to determine
how many spins you get along with the chance to find
a couple of multipliers that can really help boost your winnings.
Great graphics and sound accompany this game with
full motion video of Morgan Fairchild during the bonus game.
If you are rich enough, say like Morgan Fairchild, you can
play max coins for a chance to win the Megabucks jackpot!

The Bad:
Trying to cover 60 lines, while carrying a mortgage.
If I put in a 5 spot, I can only cover about 8 spins...
I'm not sure how often the bonus game comes out, but
I'm going to guess, 'not enough' to cover the 60 coins per.
spin. Morgan may not be in her prime, but then again,
who of us (besides you) still are?

This picture is of Wynn's version of the bonus game.
Best Win:
My good friend got an autograph and took a picture with
Morgan at G2E. Dare I say she might've touched him too.
'Thin' would be a generous description of her skeletal figure.

Locations:
Coming soon, I'm sure.

"I'd like to cash out please!"
I'll save you the trouble of counting digits...
That's ONE BILLION credits!
If you're playing pennies, that's a piddly 10
million dollars...
Even if you were playing max credits, you would
probably
have to play the machine for years (and
consistently win)
to get it that high. Or you could put your
life savings in the
bill changer of the machine, but I think it
would eventually fill up
and the slot attendant would kick you out of the
casino.
"How many nickels are there in my 401K?"

Max Action's Fondue Party features cool artistic
graphics and symbols, but I don't recall much
else from it.
The bonus game(s) must've been blah...

The Love Boat
Shiny and New Video Slots
(11/02/05)
Jackpot:
Five Captain symbols
anywhere with max coins bet.
The Good:
Have you played machines that have the scatter pay bonus
where you don't have to line symbols up, just have them
appear anywhere on any reel. Well, that is how this game's
regular spins work. Any 4(?) or more of a symbol anywhere,
will pay like you've lined them up on a line. Probably easier
said than done, but a nice change of pace. The picture above
shows 5 Isaacs (which also happen to be lined up).
There are a couple of bonus games, the Captain's table
and Smooth Operator. In the Captain's table, you pick a
seat to sit at and then the rest of the people start getting
seated. Hopefully the Captain will sit next to you, which
will reward you the best. We got Julie, which paid so-so.
In Smooth Operator, you continue to pick cheesy pick-up
lines until the girl splashes her drink in your face. The more
lines you pick, the higher the bonus...

The Bad:
You might think that this game would be a big budget game,
with all the bells and whistles that the newer machines seem
to have. (like Monopoly, Men in Black, Dirty Harry) However,
you won't find this machine with its own progressive carousel
or with the Captain's figure above the machine calling you over.
Instead it is a regular standard video slot with no full motion
video or any other high-tech innovation. A little disappointing
as you would think with this license, you'd get a little more...

Best Win:
We managed 500 coins for getting
5 Isaacs scattered about...

Locations:
This time killing machine is available almost everywhere.
Please leave a seat open for me...

Betting 20 coins per every 20 lines equals 400
coin bet...
Hitting the jackpot pays a nice 123,340 coins.
So if you were
playing pennies, $4.00 spins wins $1,230.40.
I think you can win
that by only putting $2 in a dollar slot
machine...

Reel Em In - Big Bass Bucks
Lucky Lures Video Slots
(10/26/05)
Jackpot:
Five Wild Big Fish symbols
on any line? with max coins bet.

The Good:
The bonus game is fun to play and it is multi-layered.
You can end up playing the fishing contest, where you pick
a fisherman, err, fisherperson, who then fishes against
the others, where extra credits are awarded depending upon
where you finish, 1st place, 2nd place, etc...
In the regular fishing game, other than fish, you can find treasure
chests with coins that award credits, the fishing contest, and
a trip to big bass lake. All in all, a lot of fun... However,
I think I discovered the best thing about this game during
my last losing streak in Vegas. I was so salty, that I sat
down at this penny machine and started playing, just
trying to get the bonus game. The bonus game is triggered
when you get 3 or more lure symbols in any position. So,
unlike other machines, it doesn't matter how many lines you
cover. I started by playing 9 coins, then switched to only 5
as nothing was lining up anyway. I was able to get the different
bonus games numerous times and can play for a long time on
5 bucks. 'Play time' is an important factor when acquiring comps
later. 'Play time' is difficult to accumulate when everything
you touch goes sour...

The Bad:
Disadvantages to this strategy is that you don't get as many
credits as you normally would when you play the bonus game.
However, the bonus game on this machine is a lot of fun and
has many layers to it. You also lose out on credits when things
line up on lines that you don't have covered. While this does
happen, you can't forget about the 15 credits you save
(if you are playing 5 lines instead of 20 lines) when you get a
losing spin, which is almost every spin.
I started tracking my progress on the machine using the
countdown counter that is used for the players club card points
on the machine and went an incredible 330 consecutive spins
between bonus games. Over 300 spins! That's unbelievable!
Sometimes it only takes 10 spins, but 300 is way too many!

Best Win:
I did make it to Big Bass Lake, (above) but only managed
to get 100 coins for a fish I caught.

Locations:
This time killing machine is available almost everywhere.
Please leave a seat open for me...

Looks like some video games will be coming
to the gaming floor. Titles like Virtua
Golf started
in the arcades, but will they transfer to the
casinos???
I wouldn't bet on it...

Catch Another Wave
Let's go snowboarding Video Slots
(09/28/05)
Jackpot:
Five Catch Another Wave symbols
on any line with max coins bet.
The Good:
A sequel to one of my favorite video slot machines
of all time! This game features more of a 3-Dish rendering
of the characters we all came to know in the first version.
It is hooked up to a progressive jackpot that can be
awarded through a bonus game that initiates by itself
at the end of any spin. Not sure how often that bonus game
will come out. The regular bonus game isn't as good as the
original. Once triggered, a snowboarder will travel down the
middle reel making it wild. Then it will go back to what it was
and two snowboarders will do the same down reels 2 & 4.
Then again down reels 1 & 5. You get all the credits that
are awarded had these reels been wild.

The Bad:
The bonus game isn't nearly as fun as the original free
spin bonus game where you could retrigger it during the
free spins. I'm still not sold on the progressive bonus game
that triggers on its own and not when you line something up.
While the graphics are new, I'm going to say that the
2 dimensional versions are better on the original as were
regular symbols on the reels. The newer version features
generic 9, 10, J, Q, K, A symbols, although I do like the way
they made them look like decals. I don't recall how the music
and sound were, but that was one of the highlights of the original.
I guess you can say I was very disappointed with this game.
Maybe I just need to play it and get used to it...
Best Win:
I want to say that we played 50, yes 50, lines with one
coin per line and on the bonus game we won 380 coins.
Not a great payout, but there wasn't anything too great
about this game...
Locations:
When the new progressive penny machines come out,
keep an eye out for this one...

(09/07/05)

A Fistful of Dollars
These video slots incorporate a new way of draining
money from your bankroll. If you play max lines (not
necessarily max coins per line), you are given the option
to add an extra coin for a shot at the progressive. So, basically,
you are playing 16 coins per spin, 15 to cover the 15 lines, plus
1 to cover the scatter pay possibility. Over the long run, that
has to put a serious dent in your pocket.

Catch a Wave
Still one of my favorite machines. It's a great time killer
(penny version) when you are salty playing other things.
Great sound, graphics, and bonus game. (if you can get it)
There's nothing like getting the free spins and then re-triggering
the bonus within the free spins. I think the most spins we
had on one bonus round was 25.

Ten Times Pay
I don't play the regular three reel slots that often, but
when I do, I guarantee that this doesn't happen. I usually
get the 'close, but no cigar' spins. I hate when it gives me
Ten Times - Ten Times - blank
which pays absolutely nothing. This picture was taken
when my friend showed me how to win, 100 times 20 coins.
He always makes it look so easy!

Ron Pompeil's But Wait! Win More!
You knew this was coming. Everyone's favorite
infomercial star is coming to a casino near you.
One of the bonus games involves you picking from a bunch
a different chickens that award you credits. But that's not all!
You get to pick a flavor injector that will award you a nice
multiplier to increase your winnings...

There may not be a better looking machine than this one
with the rotisserie chicken on top of the machine.
I can almost guarantee that these machines will be
full of players when they come out!

of time before George Foreman
has his own video slot machine...) |

Video Slots
With the Global Gaming Expo quickly
approaching,
here's a look back at some of last year's
games
that (I think) haven't made it to the
casino floor.
(click on pictures to enlarge them)
(08/10/05)

Elvis
You've probably seen or heard the reel version of Elvis, but
there is a coming release of a video slot version that features
3 fun bonus games. I really don't recall the specifics of all
the bonus games, but the date bonus is pictured above.
You get to pick one heart per row as you try to avoid
the symbol that ends the bonus round. You can find
the girl symbol, which will reward you with a "win the row".

Indiana Jones
This game and the Apprentice feature a bonus game where
you pick a wedge on the screen to reveal a colored jewel.
Collecting three of the same jewel rewards you with its
corresponding bonus with the diamond paying the jackpot...
with max coins played, that's a million dollars!
Diamonds are only worth $1000 with one coin played
per line as showed below.

The two times I tried it, I got two of every crystal before
getting the third amethyst (lowest value) crystal. Seems
like too big of a coincidence, so I am wary on whether
it matters which wedge you pick...

Forty Line Price is Right
I love playing the Price is Right, but I am not crazy
about a 40 line version... If you've played the 40 line games,
like the trucker one, it's hard to figure out where the lines
are on this machine. Especially with those two open
spaces on the middle reel...

Twice Your Monkey
Was it that the "Twice Your Monkey" symbols were wild
and paid doubled? Or was it that the symbol was wild
for any monkey on its corresponding reel? I don't remember...
If the 32,000 credits were real money, you'd bet I'd remember!

Addams Family: Morticia's Garden Party
This game featured a Garden Party Bonus and a free spin
bonus. I don't think they were the same thing...
For lining up 5 bonus symbols, you'd think I'd get
more than 3 picks at her flower pots...

("I was hoping
you'd stay for dinner...
actually, I was hoping you'd be dinner...") |

If this ever happened in real life, I think I
would
go into shock... Heck, I wish I could even
line
up 4 of the jackpot symbols to see what it pays!

Video Slots
A random sampling of some Video Slots
(click on pictures to enlarge them)
(08/03/05)

Austin Perfection
The most gratifying and probably most addicting part of
playing video slots is actually maxing out a bonus game.
It keeps you coming back for more... We maxed out this
Austin Powers matching bonus game as the only two squares
left are the final match of Number 2 (Robert Wagner) or the
Fat Bastard (fat Mike Myers) that signifies your next match
will be your last. It isn't the most difficult game to max out
but it does deserve a high five when you complete it...

Dam Lumber-glare
I take lots of photos in Vegas, just for this section of the website.
When I first started, I learned to turn the flash off as the glare
would ruin a lot of pictures. Now the biggest problem I have is
with blurry pictures, which you have no doubt noticed, and with
the bad placements of lights in the casino. The placement of
this machine or the lights above it just makes for a bad picture.
Normally, you don't notice it when you are playing the machine,
but there are some tabletop machines that have a
big glare on the machines as you play it...

What Mega-line is the winner?
When you play 20 lines, it can be difficult to figure out where
every line is on the reels. Try Megabucks video slots and
see if you can follow all 60 lines! I figure, if you can line up
symbols in any direction across the screen, you should be a
winner. We won a cool 1140 coins as we lined up 5 clocks
with a double symbol. My guess is that it was line 37???

The Price is definitely Right
Imagine this... here you are playing the Price is Right,
15 nickels a game, trying to keep the 100 credits you started
with from going down to zero. A lady sits next to you and
puts a twenty in the machine. Two pulls later, she is cashing
out over 3000 nickels. She lined up 4 of a contestant, Liz?,
and won a cool 2630 coins or $131.50. A very nice hit and run...

Video Keno is Boring?
Not when you can turn one coin into 1,600 coins!
My friend hit this $400 dollar jackpot while waiting around
to eat dinner. I always hear stories of people waiting around,
so they put a couple bucks in a machine and then hit some
big jackpot. It never happens to me... Then again, those people
probably aren't thinking about it with their camera ready like I am!
("Almost time
for dinner... I'll play the machine in front of the
restaurant and will be collecting my jackpot when everyone arrives...") |
Where
can we play video slots for free/fun?
A question that I am asked alot...
The Good:
Some games are available for your computer to play
at home. I don't know of any that you can play over the
internet for free. The problem is that there isn't a wide
variety of games available for your PC.
The Bad:
As for actually purchasing an actual machine, you can almost
forget about it. Only residents in certain non-gambling states may
actually purchase a machine without an actual gaming license.
Try looking up video poker machines on eBay and read
their terms of purchase...
