This is an archive of our oldest reviews
dating back to the long forgotten year of 2002.
I can probably make some newer, more detailed,
reviews of these machines in the future.

As you can tell, these reviews were pre-digital
camera, as the photos were just stock photos
from the manufacturers.

State Fair™
Carnival Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 State Fair symbols
on any payline wins the jackpot
with max coins bet.

The Good:
Two different bonus games keeps me
coming back to this game.  My favorite
is the Carnival Games Bonus which comes
in two varieties, Balloon Bonus and Catch
a Clown.  In both games you have to pick
3 squares out of a board of 9.  As long as
don't pick any "collect" squares, you get
to advance to the next board of 9.  More
"collect" squares are hidden the farther you
you advance.  But advancing through many
boards gets you a larger bonus (credits are
revealed under every square), plus you earn
multipliers as you advance multiple screens.

The Bad:
A wild symbol is present, but it doesn't
appear all that often making it hard to
line up three of anything.
You can't eat any of the carnival
food that appears on the screen.

Best Win:
We once lined up 4 of the "State Fair"
jackpot symbols in a row.  I believe that
paid 500 coins.  One more symbol would've
paid 10,000 coins.  Again, we were only
playing one coin per line.

Texas Tea™
Oil Well Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 Texas Tea symbols
on any payline wins the jackpot
with max coins bet.

The Good:
For some reason it seems like the
oil derrick bonus symbols line up frequently.
However, the bonus game isn't going to
pay a lot unless you line up 4 or 5 of the
symbols in a row.  The smaller pays for
lining up 2 to 3 symbols in a row (plane,
car, armadillo, cow symbols) pay better
than most machines to help keep you
playing.  Kind of like a poker machine
paying 10 for a two pair.

The Bad:
There is no wild symbol to help you
line up 3 of any symbol.  Those darn
flower and cactus symbols keep getting
in the way.

Best Win:
At an Indian Casino, we remarkably
lined up 4 Texas Tea symbols.  That paid
1000 coins as we played only 1 coin per
line.  We also lined up 5 of the bonus
symbols in a row and received over 1000
coins by picking the right territories in the
bonus game.

I Dream of Jeannie™
TV Land Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 Gold Nuggets symbols
on the 9th payline wins the jackpot
with max coins bet.

The Good:
Spinning the wheel is always
fun!  Just line up three of the wheel
symbols and you're off to the big wheel.
I like playing machines where the.
wild symbol, in this case the Wild Jeannie,
is also a double multiplier.  This game
also features a "Make a Wish" Bonus Game
and features the actual music from the
TV show.  You also get to hear the
voice of Barbara Eden.

The Bad:
The more current video slots have
improved upon the ground work that
this game has started.  You can probably
find funner bonus games in the newer
machines.

Best Win:
I don't have a particularly big win,
but i used to be able to get the bonus
games all the time.  Nowadays, if I can
line up two of the bonus symbols, that is
an accomplishment.

is also a non-wheel version of this game
with different bonus games.

Yukon Gold™
Gold Diggin' Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 Gold Nuggets symbols
on the 9th payline wins the jackpot
with max coins bet.

The Good:
The Yukon Gold™ bonus game is a two
part bonus game which is very fun...
The first part is a big grid of 20 squares.
You pick squares matching similar symbols.
Matching 3 of a similar symbol and you
receive one pick on the next screen.  You
keep matching until you pick 3 Bandits.
There is also one wild symbol among the
squares.  On the next screen, there are
20 new squares and you get to pick
as many squares as you had matches
in the previous round.  Each square has
a coin reward ranging from small to large.
On the regular reels, there is a wild
symbol and also a Chuck Wagon Bonus
game which is okay.

The Bad:
Why is it that when you first start playing
a slot machine, you can get to the
bonus game, but later, you can't even
come close to getting the bonus symbols
lined up.

Best Win:
One the first times we played this
machine, we lined up 5 of the bonus
symbols in a row and we got 4 picks on the
bonus game.  We got 500 coins, 250 coins,
100 coins, and 50 coins on our 4 picks.
900 coins for 9 coins bet... not bad!

Tabasco™
Red Hot Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 Tabasco™ symbols
on the any payline wins 10,000
coins times the amount bet per line.

The Good:
The Tabasco Country Store™
bonus game is fun as you try to match
three of same pictures on a grid of
squares.  Don't forget to find the
multiplier!  The Kitchen with Claude
Bonus Game is a game in which
you pick ingredients and they will start
to fill one of four recipes with some recipes
worth more than others.
The Tabasco™ symbol is wild
for all symbols except the bonus symbols.

The Bad:
Every machine I have seen is available
as a penny slot, which has the worse
odds of any machine in the casino.
You can change the denomination you want
to play (2¢, 5¢, 10¢, or 25¢), but the
pay table remains the same.

Best Win:
I was killing time just playing one penny
per line (9¢ per pull) and lined up
four of the Tabasco™ symbols in a row
with the fifth symbol just one position
off.  That paid 1000 coins, which translated
into 10 bucks... oh well!

Party Train™
Monopoly™ Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 Mr. Monopoly™ symbols
on the 9th payline with max coins
wins the jackpot.

The Good:
The Monopoly™ line of video slots
has been very successful.  The Party
Train bonus game is one of the best of
the series.  During the bonus game, you
get to roll the dice and move your
Monopoly™ piece across the board.  Along
the way, you get to play mini games if you
land on the Chance space.  You get to
keep going across the board as long as
you get through 10 spaces in 4 rolls of the
dice.  In addition to this bonus game, there
are a couple of other smaller bonus games
that you can play.

The Bad:
The only bad thing that I can think of
is that sometimes you just can't get
the bonus game...
Not unlike most of these video slots.
Some machines require you to play
90 coins per spin to win the jackpot.

Best Win:
At an Indian Casino, we sat at this
machine for over an hour... It just kept
giving us the bonus game.  We probably
played the Party Train bonus game eight
times racking up over 2000 coins.
(Playing only 1 coin per line!)

Reel 'em In™
Fishing Video Slots

Jackpot:
5 "Big Fish" symbols
on the 9th payline with max coins
wins the jackpot.

The Good:
Another of the landmark bonus game
video slot machines that started the
current craze of bonus games.
Find 3 of the same fishing lures on
3 adjacent reels and it's off to the lake.
The newer version is more fun than the
older version as you have the chance
to go to Vacation Lake where the fish
are huge.  The big fish is wild for
the other smaller fish on the reels.

The Bad:
Trying to get the bonus game...
Sometimes it takes forever to get two
lures together, let alone three!

Best Win:
We got the bonus game a few times and
made it to the fishing tournament on the
bonus game all 3 times.  We won the
tournament once and finished second
twice.  I think we cashed out about
1200 coins... not bad for only playing
only 1 coin per line!

Price Check™
Hardware Store™ Slots

Jackpot:
5 Wild Bandaged Thumb™ symbols
on any payline with max coins
wins the jackpot.

The Good:
This game features two bonus games with
the best being the "Price Check" game.
You go to checkout in a hardware store
and pick items you would like to buy.
You get to pick 3, 4, or 5 items and
picking an item will reveal a coin bonus,
a multiplier, or if it won't scan in his register
a "price check", where employees shout
out prices/coins and you keep the highest
total.  Add your coins together after all
your picks and multiply them by the
multiplier if you found one.
There is also the wild bandaged thumb that
helps line things up on the regular reels.

The Bad:
This machine seems to fall in with a lot
of video slots where you can get great bonus
wins, but to actually get the bonus game
is another story.

Best Win:
We had one of the ultimate bonus games
as we had 5 picks.  We picked the multiplier
(5 times), a regular coin bonus of 20 coins,
along with 3 "price checks".  The last
price check was worth 400 coins...
Altogether, thanks to the multiplier, we won
about 2500 coins.  (playing 1 coin per line)
Not a bad bonus...

Jackpot Party™
Party Time Slots

Jackpot:
5 "7 Jackpot" symbols
on the 9th payline with max coins
wins the jackpot.

The Good:
One of the original video slot machines
to feature a bonus game.  In fact,
their Jackpot Party bonus game has
stood the test of time as it is still fun
to play.  Presented with a screen full
of presents/gift boxes, you get to pick
as many as you can revealing coins
until you hit a party pooper, which ends
the bonus game.  Great 70's music plays
during bonus play.  There is also a wild
fruit symbol on the video reels.  This
machine also comes in 5 and 9 line
varieties allowing you to play from
45-90 coins per spin.  (for you rich people)

The Bad:
Finally getting to the bonus game and
picking a party pooper on your first pick.
5 coins of bonus pay... d'oh!

Best Win:
I've done okay on the bonus game, but
I once saw this one guy, get the bonus
8-9 times in a span of 5 minutes.  He
was playing a dime machine playing
1 coin per line.  After a couple of bonus
games, which he did very well at, he upped
his coins to play 2 coins per line, then 3,
then 4, then 5... He kept getting the bonus
game over and over again.  After about 4
bonus games in about 6 spins, he would
look over at me with an amazed look on his
face.  My jaw dropped everytime he got the
bonus game.  We couldn't believe it!

Marilyn Monroe™
Diamond Cinema™ Slots

Jackpot:
5 Diamond Cinema™ symbols
on the 15th payline with max coins wins
the Megajackpots progressive jackpot.

The Good:
The Marilyn Monroe Wild Symbol
on the second and fourth reels.
The Wild Symbol makes the entire reel
wild which helps line things up especially
if you are playing all 15 lines.  Getting
both of the Marilyn symbols makes reels
two and four completely wild.  There is also
a magazine bonus game that is fun.

The Bad:
Getting the Wild Marilyn on the fourth
reel, but not lining up anything far enough
to use it.  What a waste!
You do need to line up 3 symbols to get
paid, so make sure you don't waste a
Wild Marilyn on the second reel

Best Win:
Two Wild Marilyns appeared and I lined
up 5 of the pink Marilyn symbols along
with lining up 4 of the pink Marilyns for
about 1500 coins.  (playing 1 coin per line)

Beverly Hillbillies™
TV Game Show Slots

Jackpot:
5 Wild Beverly Hillbillies™ symbols
on the 15th payline with max coins
wins the TV Hits progressive jackpot.

The Good:
15 lines and two bonus games on this
Penny-Only video slot machine.
This machine comes in two flavors,
Moonshine Money™ and Clampett's
Gold™.  Both have fun bonus games
excellent graphics and sound.
For the high rollers, I believe you can
play 150 coins a spin or $1.50 per spin.

The Bad:
Cashing out in a casino that doesn't
have tickets or ticket vouchers on the
machine.  Nothing like waiting around for
15 minutes while waiting on your 25 cents.
Whatever you do, don't accidently
hit that "Cash Out" button by mistake!

Best Win:
I twice lined up 4 of Jethro
worth about 1000 coins each time
playing three coins per line.

What is Game Show Video Slots?

Jackpot:

The Good:
Excellent sound with the music and
sound effects straight from your tv.  Alex
Trebeck is of course your host. 
Two bonus games that are just like the
real jeopardy board.  Keep picking
categories throughout the board until you
pick a "Final Jeopardy".  Pick a "Daily 
Double" and all coins won up to that point.
In Final Jeopardy you get to win some
bonus coins or a multiplier.  If you get the
Double Jeopardy Bonus Game, there will 
be two "Daily Double" symbols on the board.
Double" and all coins won up to that point.
The Daily Double logo on the reels is wild
for all symbols except the two bonus
symbols and scatter pay symbol.

The Bad:
It used to be hard to get the bonus game
and then when I would get it, I would pick
final jeopardy on my first pick, then in
final jeopardy, I pick the 2x multiplier
for an impressive 10 coin bonus game.

Best Win:
Once, I put in $5.00 and cashed out $10.00.
That's right, I doubled my money...

Yes, Spam™ Video Slots

Jackpot:

The Good:
This is one of the few machines that
pays in both directions, left to right and
right to left.   Excellent sound with two
different bonus games.  The wild Spam™
symbol helps you connect symbols.

The Bad:
Fifteen lines.  Since the machine pays
in both directions, the pay schedule for
lining up symbols is rather pidly, unless
you're able to line up 5 of something.

Best Win:
I think I cashed out about $50.00
playing only 1 coin per line.
That was the first time I played this
machine, but ever since, I can't seem to
do anything right...

The Addams Family®
Spooky Video Slots

Jackpot:

The Good:
Four different versions of this
classic television show's video slots
exist, which adds a lot of variety.  My
personal favorite is the "Pick to Win"
Bonus Game version. The newest 
"Cousin It" variation comes with the
free spins bonus game, although I just
can't seem to get it...
The Addams Family® logo is wild for all
symbols except the two bonus symbols
and scatter pay symbol.
The music and sound are excellent.

The Bad:
One time, I reached the "Pick to Win"
Bonus game and picked, "next", "next",
and then "collect" for basically 0 coins.
It really seems hard lately, to get the
bonus game on all of the versions
of this machine.

Best Win:
800 coins by lining up 5 of the
house symbols with 1 coin per line.

The Good:
3 Bonus Games, one of which
you get to spin the wheel, the Web

the three bonus symbols.

The Bad:
If you were to play max coins, it is 15
lines with 5 coins per line.  That translates
into $3.75 a pull on nickel slots.
The wheel bonus game sure seems hard
to get, although I see people spinning
the wheel all the time.

Best Win:
1000+ coins on the Web of Winnings
Bonus Game with only 1 coin played per
line.  We luckily picked the "5 spins"
symbol and on each of the 5 spins we got
the treasure chest, where you get
to pick your award from 3 chests.

Plinko, or the new, Punch-a-Bunch
The Price is Right logo is wild for all

The Bad:
Finally getting to the Showcase Showdown

Best Win:

Motorcycle Video Slots

The Good:
2 Bonus Games with the Road Rally
Bonus being the best.  You get to spin the
wheel and try to finish all the races.
If you do, there is a good reward awaiting.
Harley Davidson logo is wild for all symbols
except the two bonus symbols.

The Bad:
12 lines instead of 9, meaning your
money won't last as long.  You must line
up 3 symbols to get a winning line.
If you play max coins, that will be 60
nickels, which is 3 bucks a pull.
Just like playing dollar slots.

Best Win:
1600 coins on the Road Rally Bonus
with only 1 coin played per line.

As of December 2002, you can find this
machine at almost every casino.
As newer machines come out, they will

Maybe I got a cherry one time...

A bit streaky... Lots of people and words.
The Wild "Austin Powers" double symbol
is only wild for word symbols

"Austin Powers" double symbol included.

Where can we play video slots for free/fun?
A question that I am asked alot...

The Good:
Some games are available for your computer to play
at home.  I don't know of any that you can play over the
internet for free.  The problem is that there isn't a wide
variety of games available for your PC.

The Bad:
As for actually purchasing an actual machine, you can almost
forget about it.  Only residents in certain non-gambling states may
actually purchase a machine without an actual gaming license.
Try looking up video poker machines on eBay and read
their terms of purchase...
