My Top 5 Places to Eat in Vegas
(10/17/07)
They might not be the swankiest or most elegant
places in the city, in fact, they're not, but they
fit into my modest budget. Especially since
I don't play enough to get anything comped...
(Playing penny slots works up an appetite.)
#5 The Prime Rib at the Cal:
This used to rate higher. I don't mind losing some money
gambling a little in the casino, but I really don't want to lose
my stomach and bowel movements at a casino. They're
still some reports of people getting sick, although, we've
eaten there more than a few times this year without any
incidents. The Prime Rib is usually big and it comes with
an
All-You-Can-Eat Salad Bar and Cherries Jubilee for dessert!
Sometimes it's worth the gamble to eat the cherries jubilee!
At $7.99, it is an incredible value...
#4 The Gourmet Buffet at the Bellagio:
We haven't ate there at all lately, which is probably why it
is this low on the list. I love the food and the
decorations as
everything looks and tastes amazing. Where else can you
have All-You-Can-Eat Beef Wellington or Kobe Beef or Venizon
(whatever floats your boat...) The thing I don't like
about this
buffet is the long line. I'll pay the high price, but I
don't like
waiting in line for an hour to eat...
I'm hungry now!
#3 Sonic Drive-In:
Yes, the fast food drive in cracks the top 5. I'm from
SoCal
where the closest Sonic is in Anaheim, so we don't get to
eat this very often. The thing to get there is not the
crazy
sandwiches (like the philly cheese steak in a hot dog bun),
but their drinks. My favorite is the Fresh Fruit Slush
that comes
in Lime, Lemon-Berry, and Strawberry (my choice). And you
can get an insane Route 44oz drink for around 50 cents
more than a small size. Don't confuse this drink with
their
Cream Slushes or Limeades, which are okay...
Their food is the standard fair, with my favorite
being the Coney Hot Dog (chili cheese extra long hot dog)
and the Sonic Breakfast Burrito (egg, sausage, tater tots,
onions, & jalapenos) Mmmm, a heart attack waiting to happen!
The Sonic we visit is on Flamingo, across the street from
the Palms Casino.
#2 Makino:
I haven't tried the newer locations, as I usually just eat at
the
Makino at the Outlet on the way to downtown. I just can't
seem to pass up All-You-Can-Eat sushi and tempura.
They added hand scooped ice cream to the menu, which
appeals to me as well. At dinner you can eat sashimi
and Crab Legs.
#1 The Wynn
Buffet:
One of the reasons the Bellagio buffet has dropped lower
is because we've been eating the Wynn Buffet, more and more.
We love the food their just as much as the Bellagio
(King Crab Legs, Prime Rib, Pizza, Ribs, Shrimp)
but the Wynn might edge out the Bellagio when it comes
to dessert. Such a great selection and their homemade
ice cream does float my boat. A really short line makes
this our favorite as it is easy to get right to business
when you arrive. (okay, there was a long line once, but
that was because it was during the Christmas crush)
Honorable Mention:
The breakfast buffet at the Green Valley Ranch |

only $6.50 each

Super Times Pay Poker
Timely Video Poker
(09/26/07)
Jackpot:
Royal Flush dealt to you
with max coins bet.
The Good:
This game is played as either a triple play, five play, or ten play
machine. Your initial hand is dealt to you and occasionally
you will get a multiplier that will cycle between 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x,
8x, and 10x pay. It is very exciting getting a multiplier as it will
change back an forth for a few seconds before stopping on your
multiplier for the hand. Especially exciting when the 8x or 10x
multiplier comes up! Then you play your regular triple play hand
receiving the multiple times anything you win on all 3 hands.
Hey, 10x a pair of Jacks pays 50 coins per hand!
Just imagine hitting a multiplier and then getting four aces with
a kicker or having a four of a kind dealt to you!
The Bad:
The multiplier is very streaky and sometimes it doesn't come
out for long stretches of time. However, the worst part, is that
you have to pay an extra coin per hand played. That is, for
triple play for example, instead of the normal 15 coins (5 per hand)
you have to put in 18 coins (6 per hand). A losing streak will
attack your credits at a much faster rate than usual...
Best Win:
4 Aces with a kicker with no multiplier.
4 Queens dealt with no multiplier
We just can't seem to put the multiplier to good use...
Locations:
This machine is available in many casinos,
sometimes in the new All Star Poker multi-poker machines
In Downtown, only at the Fremont and Main Street.

New Marilyn!
Is this machine out now? I don't know...
It's been quite a while
since I've been to Vegas. It looks to have
a similar feel to the game
but a wheel as a bonus game doesn't excite me
like it used to...
(all the pictures above are from the new Marilyn
machine)

Just Lunch Story
(08/09/06)
from consumeraffairs.com
This is NOT my story, nor do I know this
person.
(This story has been edited)
A new franchise owner recently opened a new It's Just Lunch
office (matchmaking service) in Las Vegas. She recruited me
and begged me to come work for her. She sent me to "training"
(liar's camp) at Corporate, and then 3 days after I returned from
"training", she fired me over the telephone because I refused to lie
to clients. I refused to be unethical.
I was told to tell new clients that we had 'hundreds' of clients,
when in fact we had exactly 15 clients and those 15 people were
given free memberships so that we had people to use as "inventory".
I was told to "tell people anything to get them in the door" ...
It was a hardcore sales pitch worse than what is seen in timeshare
sales or used car sales. They do NOT match people based on
preferences. They just slap people together without regard for the
client's preferences. They are only concerned with getting the money,
after that... they don't care what happens to the people on their dates.
They prey on lonely people and promise false hope. They also
do not have "high profile" members -- they take anyone
who will write a check. They also don't take credit cards and
arrange to send a courier to someone's home or office to pick up
the check "before they have a chance to change their minds".
It is a totally impersonal approach as they follow a strict telephone
scripted sales pitch that employees are NOT allowed to deviate from,
or else, they will be fired the way I was! Fired for caring about people
and wanting to do the right thing, rather than lie to them and take
advantage of the lonely singles out there! The economic consequence
to me was that I left a well-paying job to go to work for this s***-based
organization based on false promises and lies. Then within
a week I was unemployed through no fault of my own.
(Well, I'm sure 80% (or
12 of the 15 people) lied on their
preferences anyways. Do you think lonely singles
will
buy a lucky romance charm? Hmmm...)

Monopoly: Shake, Rattle, &
Roll
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Most Monopoly games automatically get a 4 eggplant
score, but Williams has come out with a few sub-par,
Monopoly games that are trying to capitalize on their
winning franchise. We, die hard, video slot players can
almost immediately spot the difference in graphics, bonus
game quality, and general feel of the game. Don't try to fool
us thinking we'll play anything with a Monopoly logo...

Shocking Headlines
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
I finally got a chance to play this game for real and
it was fun. It has a few bonus games that we got to
play, but it's hard to give it more than 3 nasubi as
this game doesn't do anything that excites anyone.
It's just another of those IGT generic video slots that
they change the symbols and slap on a new title...

The Price is Right: Punch a Bunch
D-vision Score:

4 lucky eggplants out of 5
The main bonus game may be the same and nothing new,
but it is still fun. The Punch a Bunch game isn't anything
that spectacular, in fact, it is rather a so-so bonus game.
However, those great graphics, sound, and video quality
add up to another winner... Come on Down!

Monopoly: Reel Riches
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Another example of a Monopoly game gone wrong. One
look at the graphics on the screen and you already
know they half-assed the game. If they had put as
much effort into the game as they did onto the game
sign (as pictured above), they wouldv'e had a good game.

Bobble Time
D-vision Score:

4 lucky eggplants out of 5
Nothing truly inventive game wise, but a really neat
concept to use their characters in a game. I would like
to see more games like this where you get to see/pick your
favorite video slot characters in bonus games.
(I still do my best
not to pick Uncle S(c)am as I never win
on his video slot. I'll usually go with the Catch a Wave dude
or the Chinese chef!) |

World Poker Tour!
Being into the whole Texas Hold em craze, I will
probably dump
tons of money into this video slot. I'm
not sure if this will make for
a good game, but I already know that I will like
it...

Jeopardy
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Not exactly the most entertaining of bonus games
as I would like a more interactive experience, but if it pays
I'll be a fan. Not that I've ever had great results from the
Jeopardy video slots, but I liked the graphics...

Jeannie Your Wish
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
One of the first video slots that I played was the
I Dream of Jeannie. It was a lot of fun and the bonus
games were so new and inventive. Now, the wheel
isn't such a great attraction when it comes to the bonus
games, unless you're talking about the Price is Right.
For some reason, I can't get enough of that bonus game,
but I digress... My wish is for more innovative bonus games.

The Terminator: Cyber Spins
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Anybody have any luck on the original Terminator?
Don't look at me... With no luck on the original, I'm not
counting on this machine to up my bankroll. This is another
of those machines that has only one bonus game, 30?
free spins. I could think of a lot worse bonus games...

Hollywood Squares: Center Stage
D-vision Score:

5 lucky eggplants out of 5
Williams has really put together a great franchise in the
Hollywood Squares series. They've incorporated great
bonus games, improved graphics, and celebrities...
Is there anyone hotter than the Hoff?
By the way, how did he hurt himself again?
Running into a chandelier while shaving?

Addams Family: Pick to Win
D-vision Score:

4 lucky eggplants out of 5
Maybe the first video slot to come up with the Pick to Win
bonus game concept. Still a favorite, however it is getting
harder and harder to find, not to mention, harder and harder to
win at. A more updated version of this game would go over well.
(Pick to lose:
Have you ever gone through this bonus game
picking all the "collect" headstones? I've done that
a couple of frustrating times!) |

Showcase Showdown!
I love this bonus game! Probably because
you get rewarded
with the showcase showdown bonus game if your
game show contestant
can get 55 or better in two spins... Sounds
easy, but I think the darn
casinos have tightened up this part of the game
also... Arrgh!

Mr. Cashman
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
A random Mr. Cashman will come out occasionally
and award you a random bonus, like free spins or a
multiplier. An okay concept... Again, I'm not a fan of
bonus games triggering without you seeing something
line up on the screen. The Atronic? graphics are improving.

Bowser's Rock N' Roll Party
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Not sure how many people actually saw this game come
out or if there are any of these still on a casino floor. I guess
Bowser isn't quite the A-list star he used to be in the
Sha-na-na era... Don't ask me how I know that.

South Park
D-vision Score:

5 lucky eggplants out of 5
Something like 5 or 6 bonus games, actual voices from the
show, great graphics, Cartman, I mean, what more can you
ask for? It's a machine that I will always play even if it keeps
taking my money... The one problem... only Indian casinos
would take this game since it appeals to the kids.

Crab Legs
D-vision Score:

5 lucky eggplants out of 5
This game features great... Hey, who put up the picture
of food in the video slot section? That doesn't belong here!
Although it does make me hungry as I haven't had a buffet
in a long time! Mmm crab legs!

Megabucks Video Slots
D-vision Score:

3 lucky eggplants out of 5
Who doesn't love a game that has 100 lines. Okay, I'm
exaggerating a bit, it only has a mere 60 lines. Put in max
coins for a nice 300 penny spin, which is equal to a dollar machine
size bet. (with a 70% penny machine payback) It's no wonder
the casinos are putting the video slot machines everywhere on
the casino floor. Back to this game, the bonus game is a lot
of fun and even more fun if you start out like we did above
by finding the two multipliers first.
(Dollar machines
typically have 90+% payback.) |

Crab Legs!
Would you quit it with the food already?
I haven't ate lunch yet today and am getting
really hungry...
I wonder who wants to eat lunch at Red Lobster
with me?

Four Igors!
One of the only times I actually got a winning
spin on this video slot. I usually put my
money in the machine
and walk away 2 minutes later telling myself, 'I
knew
that was going to happen!'

The Garden Buffet
at the new Sun Coast Casino
(05/24/06)
This review is based upon the Sunday Brunch buffet.
(no illegal pictures were taken!)
The Good:
A new buffet experience is always a good thing. We arrived
around noon, not the optimum time for going to lunch at a
casino,
but traffic wasn't that cooperative. The first thing we
did was go
to the player's club booth as they give away 'buy 1, get 1 free'
buffet coupons when you sign up for the club card. I
actually
had a Coast card from years ago at the Gold Coast casino,
so I was denied a coupon book... (pretty please???)
When we arrived at the buffet, I was expecting
a long line
as there was a long line to eat at their regular coffee shop.
To my surprise the line was short! I'm guessing the locals
aren't going to shell out $11.95 from their gambling fund
to eat lunch. (or the buffet must be quite terrible)
We used our 2 for 1 coupon and I gave her my club card
to see if there were any points I could use. Surprise
number two was that I had enough points to cover the buffet
Nothing like found money, even if it is only $13.00.
The buffet was your standard station variety,
with Asian,
Mexican, Italian, American, Dessert and Salad stations.
The food was pretty good and they served Mountain Dew!
I had a couple of nice slices of Prime Rib along with your
everyday shrimp/bacon/onion/green pepper/tomato/green onion/
cheese omelete. For dessert, I had a piece of pound
cake with pineapple topping and soft ice cream.
Other items that I sampled were chocolate waffles,
peel and eat shrimp, taco bar, peach pie, and corned beef hash.
The Bad:
There is one huge negative to this casino/buffet.
It is located about 9 miles south of the strip, which isn't
that bad of a thing until you see that there is no freeway
exit anywhere near this casino. You have to take the Lake
Mead exit on the 15 and then drive 9 miles to the casino
or take the Pathrump(sp?) exit and drive 5 miles.
Couldn't they have dropped a million bucks into the
local councilman's pocket and have him okay an off ramp?
If you're looking for a gourmet buffet, don't
bother making this
drive. If you'd like to see a new casino and eat at your
standard Las Vegas buffet, this is a definite option.
The buffet isn't anything spectacular, but we enjoyed the lunch
and the casino.

Carnival
Cruise Story
(05/17/06)
from complaints.com
This is NOT my story, nor do I know this
person.
(This story has been edited for everybody's time
constraints)
I would always be leary of slot machines on off shore boats.
It's like playing internet slots... No regulations usually mean
no winnings. I thought the main concern on cruise ships
was food poisoning, theft, rape, and murder..
("What's the topic on Oprah today? ...
Wow, another cruise ship horror story!")
The Story: (again, not my story)
We were on the Carnival Miracle out of Tampa,
FL on 9/11/05 for a
7-day cruise. On the second day out, I was on the slots the next
afternoon and the slot I was playing went wild. I put my card in
and
ten dollars. The machine accepted my name and point balance.
I pressed max play and nothing happened. This happens
often while
the computer catches up. Well, I pressed the max again and
all hell came up, The slot started booming... whistles, horns,
sirens,
music, lights, and the credit meter went wild plus points
earned.
A total of $4,194,303.00 in cash and points of 3,355,443. Now,
this
was displayed on my slot print out. Well, here come the
attendants.
I was immediately informed that I was not entitled to the
payout.
This machine, through the computer, decided to make the payout,
which appears on my slot activities. Now I really do not
understand
slots. All I do is put my money in and hope for the best.
Like
all slot players, hope one day we will hit the big one. The two
guys
in less than a minute, tell me that this slot players dream was
just
a dream. How many slot players have gone thru this? I am
going
the litigation route and I refuse to roll over and play dead.
I encourage
all devoted slot players to take a stand against two guys saying
you
are not entitled to a payout. Anyone that has this or anything
near this,
we should take action. The slots are set up to take our money,
but
when they payout, it belongs to us.
(Two questions...
What did the "two guys" look like? and
secondly, where can I find one of these "all hell came
up" machines?)
|

Bad Photography?
More like bad lighting. On some machines, you have to
contort your head to view the screen better. Not a problem
if you're
winning, but when does that ever happen???

Monopoly Once Around!
Old school video slots... One of the original
video slot machines
will soon be replaced with the new Twice Around.
I guess they can't hook up the ticket in/ticket
out
feature to these older machines...

Triple Diamond Jackpot!
I think lining up these three symbols is more
fun than playing
any bonus game on any video slot machine!
Especially if you
are playing the $5.00 version!

Frenzy Spins Bonus
I believe the name of this game is Shark Frenzy.
Triggering the frenzy bonus is a lot of fun as you get
to keep getting spinning the reels and collecting credits
as long as one wild Shark Frenzy spin appears anywhere
on one of the five reels... In the top left corner, you can
see the record number of spins that somebody got
as you can hopefully try to beat it...

Beverly Hillbillies Kangaroo Scam
There is nothing like triggering a bonus game, unless it's
the Kangaroo Bonus on this machine. It was fun the first coupla
times I played it, but now it seems rather boring and a waste of
time. They should let you touch the screen to choose which
item you want to shoot at, rather than making you wait until
the Kangaroo appears on it. When you do eventually make it
to the final screen, the big payoff is a mere 5 times what
you bet? Not exactly megapennies...

Moolah Bonus
Do you get theses crazy, new video slots?
Me neither... I just mindlessly press the spin
button and are welcomely (is that a word?) surprised
should I get anything. I still don't understand how the
all the lines work...

Price is Right
On the Showcase Showdown Bonus, have you ever
tallied exactly 100 on your first two spins? I almost always
go over 100, but have gotten 100 two times in my PIR video
slot career. On the bonus spin, you get 1000 coins if you land
on the 100, or 250 coins if you land on the green 5 or 15 spots.
The lady pictured above, Bea?, really has been stiffing me lately...
She keeps disappointing me by always going under 55.
(It's kinda sad, but
if you show me pictures of the price
is right characters, I can probably name them off...
"That's Ken, That's
Kim, That's Dwayne, That's Al...") |

I like Carl!
Carl seems to be more reliable than Bea...
Maybe it's the way he doesn't spin the wheel as
hard.

Wheel of Fortune - Fortune Spins
This is one of the original video slot games that got
me into playing these type of machines. It was so much
fun spinning the wheel and even more fun to play the Fortune
Spin Bonus Game. Nowadays, these machines are still
around, but are now in very, very stingy penny forms...

Adjacent Reels (Nonsense?)
Found some newer video slots that feature five
strange reels that sort of tile together. After playing it for
a while you discover that you just need to bunch symbols
together, as the more you bunch, the bigger the win. The above
pic shows five hawk heads (the blue diamond is wild) and
four J's as winning bunches. This game got old in a hurry
and I went running back to the normal video slot machines.

Slot Dogs
Remember those fox and the hound symbols from
the video slot machine. Well, we started playing a regular
three reel slot machine with those same symbols.
We did pretty good on it as the symbols kept coming
up as shown in the picture above. However, when the
machine went cold, it wasn't as fun... coincidence?

Monopoly Safe Bonus
You sit down and play a new game... everything is new
and exciting... then, you trigger the bonus game.
Pick a safe... okay, which one to pick... 20 different safes
to choose from... you then pick a safe and it reveals
"go directly to jail" bonus game over!
You must then play the machine until you get the bonus game
again and redeem yourself... time and cost does not matter!

Hot Hot Penny
Another new gimmick to get you to put more money
in the machine. This scam goes something like this...
if you put in extra credits (1 or 5, I forget), you will get
more free spins, more often...
It was available on a number of new machines on a
carousel, not just the King of Africa game shown above.
I don't recall Penny ever coming to our aid...
(My machine was
always in cold, cold penny mode...
or was it sucker, sucker penny mode... I forget) |

Even if you were playing max credits, you would
probably
have to play the machine for years (and
consistently win)
to get it that high. Or you could put your
life savings in the
bill changer of the machine, but I think it
would eventually fill up

casino.

We gave this Nerd machine a try and scored a
cool 2000
coins on this one free spin. I think we
cashed in over 20 bucks
which is pretty awesome playing penny slots.
This was at the Horseshoe in Downtown LV and
they don't have
ticket payments, so it paid us in nickels...
and needless to say
we emptied that hopper and had to wait 20
minutes.
A penny slot that pays you in nickels... like I
said, weird.
Where
can we play video slots for free/fun?
A question that I am asked alot...
The Good:
Some games are available for your computer to play
at home. I don't know of any that you can play over the
internet for free. The problem is that there isn't a wide
variety of games available for your PC.
The Bad:
As for actually purchasing an actual machine, you can almost forget
forget about it. Only residents in certain non-gambling states may
actually purchase a machine without an actual gaming license.
Try looking up video poker machines on eBay and read
their terms of purchase...
